I haven’t used online video editors before but JayCut’s flash uploader was easy to use and supported video, photo, and audio in multiple formats. To add clips, music, transitions, or effects to the time line I just placed them into the editor. Once the files were uploaded they were converted to flash for the editor and player. With the focus on citizen journalism and hyperlocal content, JayCut is an interesting way for a local audience to create and share video content. I would like to see how this technology could be incorporated into news sites and for pushing news content through mobile technologies such as the iPhone by a local audience.

About JayCut: Development of the advanced technology that makes JayCut’s online video editing possible began early 2006. In December 2006 a technology demonstration was put up on the Internet. It attracted quite a lot of interest, both from users and newspapers, and movies of everything from parties to gardens were created. In February 2007, the company JayCut AB was founded. In May 2007 closed beta testing of the beta began, and in June 2007 the open beta was launched.
